POUNDS RETURNS TO VICTORY LANE IN IMCA MODIFIED SATURDAY
The month of August is upon us which always means “Hot August Night’s” at the Bakersfield Speedway. 16 Mid Cal Fabrication IMCA Modifieds checked in at the Bakersfield Speedway to do battle on the 1/3 mile clay oval for some hot summer night racing. Robby Sawyer took an early control of the field from first second starting position as the 15 others had there work cut out contending with the Bakersfield driver who is on a hot streak coming off a Wednesday night win in Ventura, CA. Brad Pounds of Bakersfield, CA started fifth in the field wasted no time as he picked his way through the field. Pounds followed Sawyer very close on the bottom of the race track for several laps. In the end Pounds captured the main event win followed by Sawyer, Ricky Childress Jr and John Piker rounding out the top four. Modifieds return this Saturday night which should include another great battle from Pounds and Sawyer as both drivers seem to be on the top of their games as we have reached the later point of the points season.
A surprisingly smaller field of Motor City GMC IMCA SportMods cars ended up producing another great battle for the winners check Saturday night. Joey Dominguez of Bakersfield lead the field to the green flag and stayed there in the early part of the 20 lap main event and looked to be on his way to his first checkered flag win. Eventual winner Brylon Holder charged hard to fight his way into the top spot to claim his second victory of the year followed by Dominguez, Michael Black of Taft and Jason Nation.
10 Johasee Rebar American Stocks checked in for the night of dirt track action. Nicholas Johnson of Bakersfield had a strong outing starting in the eight spot Saturday night showed the way around the 1/3 mile clay oval to win the 20 lap feature. Brandon Ratcliff gave it a full effort to try and get pass Johnson but eventually finished second followed by Cody Johnson, Trevor Baker and Dakota Brown rounding out the top five.
12 Mod Lites hit the clay oval with Zach Forester grabbing the 20 lap feature followed by young gun Jerry Flippo, Jeff Thompson and Brendon Priest making the long tow from Meas, AZ.
Coca Cola Mini Stocks were also in action Saturday with current points leader Loni Spiller of Tehachapi capturing another main event win followed by Shawn Schwartzenberger, Kylie Conway and Misty Warren.
