Defending Honda USAC Western Midget Champion Ronnie Gardner of Norco, Calif. picked up right where he left off in 2014 by winning the 2015 series opener Saturday night at Bakersfield Speedway. Gardner caught Trey Marcham on lap 16 and led the final five laps in his Baldozier Racing/Esslinger Engineering Stewart/Esslinger to beat Marcham, Scott Pierovich, David Prickett and Randi Pankratz. Open wheel super show set for this Saturday March 21st

This Saturday, March 21st, the Honda USAC Western Midgets will open their 33rd season at Bakersfield Speedway in Bakersfield, California. Promoted by Scott Schweitzer, the action packed card will also feature SportMods, American Stocks, California Lightning Sprints and RaceSaver Sprints. Heckman holds on for IMCA win

Whitwell hasn’t been chasing people much this season, but that’s the position he was in Saturday night at Bakersfield Speedway in the IMCA Modified feature. 70th Season Opener in the Books

BY STEPHEN LYNCH For The Californian Bakersfield Speedway kicked off its 70th season of racing on Saturday night with a full schedule of non-stop action. Five divisions of cars took to the high-banked, third-mile, clay oval, entertaining the packed grandstands with lots of side-by-side competition and a couple of thrilling finishes. Open Practice Continues Today

Open practice will continue today Sunday March 1st. We are getting what little water is on the track from the rain last night and we will be ready to go. Pit gates open at 11am with practice running from 12 noon to dusk. All pit passes sold last night will be honored today for re-entry today. Any new pit passes will be $35 per person. Grandstands are free to watch
