Hogge wins final race of the 2015 season at Bakersfield Speedway
Bobby Hogge regained his form Saturday night at Bakersfield Speedway.
Hogge, of Salinas, brought the second annual Thanksgiving Thunder to a conclusion by winning the Modified 30-lap feature, the final race of the season on the third-mile clay oval.
Hogge won his first two races at the track this year but was blanked in four ties after that.
Cody Laney, who won on Friday night, took the lead from Robby Sawyer early on and had a large cushion when he got caught up in lapped traffic and suffered a flat tire.
Sawyer moved back into the lead at that point but Hogge, who started 12th, got by with three laps to go and won by two car lengths.
Alex Stanford was third, followed Rick Childress Jr. and Brad Pounds.
Michael Johnson made it two straight Sport Mod victories to end the season.
Johnson got his first win of the season at the Speedway on Friday night and doubled up on Saturday night.
Joey Yantis led the first 10 laps before Johnson moved into the lead. Nick Spainhoward moved up to challenge Yantis late in the race but could not get by and finished second.
Lee Jensen started on the outside of the front row of the Pro Stock feature and and led all 30 laps for the win. Four cautions allowed the field to catch up, but Jensen pulled away on each restart.
In Mod Lites action, Sawyer made his debut a good one. The Modified drivers climbed into Nick Sylvester’s car and and raced to victory in the 30-lap feature. Sawyer started on the second row, took the lead on the second lap and stayed there the rest of the way in the caution-free race. Zach Forster was second and Jeff Thompson third.
Chris Fritz won a crash filled the Hobby Stock race, followed by Trevor Fritz and Matt McEwan.
