Dutton claims fourth SportMod win
Gary Dutton won his fourth IMCA Sport Mods main event by at Bakersfield Speedway Saturday night. Starting sixth for the night, Dutton passed Jason Nation on lap 17 and stayed car lengths ahead for the last eight laps.
“The track was nice, and Gary’s pretty good, so I don’t mind finishing second to him,” Nation said.
Brylon Holder placed third and Nick Spainhoward raced his way through the pack to end in fourth.
Another name was added to the long list of IMCA Modifieds winners as Ryan Daves lead the 25-Lap Main and earned his first win of the year.
“If feels great” Daves said.
Justin Schweitzer placed second, John Piker was third and Cody Laney came in fourth.
“The track was a bit tacky,” a disappointed Laney said. “I tried to work my way up.”
Earlier in the night Michael Black rolled his car in a heat race. He walked away uninjured, but did not race in the Main.
Alex Schutte and Ronnie Gardner were nose to nose at the finish line for the 30- lap USAC Western States Ignite Midgets Main, with Schutte coming out first. Garner battled his way to the front, taking second place on lap 27. Shannon McQueen stayed in the front of the pack the whole race, ending in third.
“Honestly, it was really tough,” Schutte said. “There is a smaller car count, but the talent was there.”
Racing in a new car, Jason Womac won his heat race and maintained his lead of the 20-lap Mini Stock Main, winning his first track feature. “I just picked up this car a few days ago,” a happy Womac said. “We worked on a few things, and I guess it worked out.” Misty Warren moved her way through the pack to place second and Ken Shugarts was third.
After running into car trouble during her heat race, and only taking the green lap of the Main, Tina Bell proves consistency is key, winning the Mini Stocks championship.
“It’s been a rough day,” Bell said. “This is not the way we wanted to end the season. As for next year, Bell will be racing in Pro Stock.
Fighting his way from the fifth row outside, Devlin Autry was able to lead the last six laps and win the Dwarf Cars Main.
“It’s my first win at Bakersfield. It’s my home track. It’s a big deal for me.” Autry said. Angel Figueroa moved up from fifth row inside to finish Second, and L.J. Billings placed third.
