Ryan’s Mission partnering with Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) and The Bakersfield Speedway present The 1st Annual T1D Night at Bakersfield Speedway on Saturday, September 1st, 2012. Gates open at 4:00 pm, autograph session with NASCAR Development Driver Ryan Reed at 5:00 pm, and racing begins at 6:00 pm. Tickets can be pre-purchased for $12.00 per adult and $6.00 per child at H&S Body Works and towing. $2.00 for every adult ticket and $1.00 from every child’s ticket will be donated to Ryan’s Mission benefitting JDRF. No. 15 Ford Show Car designed by legendary artist Sam Bass will be on site as well as Ryan Reed Racing merchandise. Live racing from Ryan Reed will take place throughout the evening on the 1/3 mile, clay, oval, Bakersfield Speedway Race Track featuring 5 divisions of racing; Modified, Sports Modified, Hobby Stock, American Stock and Mini Stock.
In February 2011, Ryan was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. As an outspoken diabetic with strength, adversity, and leadership, Ryan developed Ryan’s Mission in an effort to be a motivational leader and build awareness for the widely spread condition of type 1diabetes. In 2012, he was named a JDRF National Celebrity Advocate. He is racing for a cure and chasing is dream of becoming the first known type 1 diabetic to win the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series. Ryan has been involved in racing for over a decade. In 2009, Ryan was the Legend’s Division Champion, although 2010 was his rookie season in NASCAR Super Late Models. He became the youngest winner in Toyota Speedway history at Irwindale, and took home Rookie of the Year honors. He is currently racing in the ARCA Racing Series, and will be entering the NASCAR Nationwide Series in 2013.
JDRF has had a presence in Bakersfield for over 15 years. Since 1997, The Walk For A Cure in our area has raised over $2.6 million dollars for diabetes research. JDRF provides free support group and outreach activities to newly diagnosed children and their families. They have distributed over 100 Bags of Hope to newly diagnosed patients.
